Stuffed Chana Dal Parantha

Its a good option for school tiffin box.So to make Channa Dal Parantha we need:

Ingredients

2 cups Atta/whole wheat flour

a generous pinch of salt

For the stuffing

1 cup of soaked channa dal(soaked for 2 hours)

2 green chillies

2 tsp ginger chopped

1 tsp saunf/fennel seeds

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

3/4 tsp chilli powder

1/4 tsp asafoetida

salt to taste

1 tbsp oil

Method

1.First step is to make the stuffing. For that we will give 1 whistle to soaked chana dal with little salt and turmeric.

2.Now in a grinder take the par-boiled chana dal, green chillies, ginger and saunf , grind them together with very little or no water.

3.After this heat a non-stick pan and add 1 tbsp oil.To this add the prepared paste gradually.Start stirring with the other hand. Also make sure the flame is at low to medium.

4.To this add salt and hinge/asafoetida and mix well.Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and keep stirring  in between .After 7 mins the mixture will start living the sides of the pan. This is an indication that the mixture is cooked and good to be used as a filling.

5.Switch the flame off and transfer the mixture in a dish and allow it to cool to room temperature.

6.Now start making a dough for our paranthas with the Atta and generous pinch of salt.Rest this for about 10mins in the counter.Do not refrigerate it.

7.After 10 mins divide the dough into desired balls for making the paranthas. Shape it into roundels.Take each ball at a time and press it in the middle to form a cavity in the center. Now apply a little oil in the cavity and fill in the dal mixture which is cooled to room temperature. Now close the ends of the cavity and reshape it back into a ball.Repeat this step with all the other balls of dough.

8.Now with the help of the dry flour make  paranthas with the help of rolling pin.Be very gentle while handling the stuffed dough balls. Then heat the iron tawa/griddle and roast the paranthas with ghee/oil on both the sides. And your beautiful paranthas are ready.Serve it with tomato chutney /ketchup/pickle or any veg curry.
